Off the Beaten Path in DC

Washington DC was an incredible place to be during the Pandemic because it was empty unlike anything I ever imagined.  I took the opportunity to walk all over the city and enjoy the beauty without the crowds.  Now that things are opening back up, the crowds are coming back but I thought it would be fun to share some fun things to do that aren’t just the main tourist attractions.  It’s fun to see the city in a different way!

1 - Rent a bike and ride it across the bridge by the Jefferson Memorial into Virginia, take the bike path along the river towards Georgetown and and go across the Key Bridge into DC and back to where you started.  It is absolutely gorgeous and you have some amazing views along the way.  You can stop and hike around Theodore Roosevelt Island if you want.

2 - Find a small cafe and sit outside in Capitol Hill and just enjoy the quiet in the middle of the chaos.

3  - Take a walk along Massachusetts Avenue to check out all of the embassies along the way!

4 - If you are hungry check out Union Market and find your favorite foods.  Go with someone else so that you can get a bunch of food from all different booths and share and enjoy!

5 - Find the exorcist steps in Georgetown from the movie.

6 - Go to the Municipal Fish market in the Wharf area and enjoy some fresh seafood right off the barge.

7 - Check out turtle beach on the water by the Navy Yard.  You will probably spot a dozen turtles just sunning themselves and enjoying the day.

8 - Go to Chinatown and enjoy some great food and see the beautiful archway above the street.

9 - Take a picnic lunch to the National Cathedral and people watch while you enjoy a break.

10 - Rent a kayak and go out on the Potomac to enjoy the sites from the water.

There are so many things to do in DC even with many of the major sites still closed.  If you sit back and relax and take it in from a different view, it is one of the most incredible places to be.  It isn’t all about the crowds and the hustle.  It is more about enjoying the moment!
